One of the most popular camps offered at GRB is back this spring and is now designed for the youth thrower. This eight week program will put players through a progressive series of both throwing and strengthening work. Using a long toss program paired with a plyo-ball program that features both heavier and lighter than a 5 oz. baseball, players will be able to increase both arm strength and arm speed which are large components of increasing velocity. Progress will be checked every two weeks with radar gun readings on those days. Tools such as video analysis will be used to ensure the throwers are improving throwing mechanics to stay healthy and increase performance.
Another large focus of the youth velocity camp is building full body strength and stability to support velocity gains. Using medicine balls, resistance bands, as well as body weight exercises will allow throwers to develop both rotational and linear strength to increase power output.
The third and most important aspect of the velocity program is a detailed warm-up and recovery protocol that will allow the youth throwers to stay healthy throughout the program as well as the entire season. Full body warm-up will be done to begin every session as well as a band routine that will improve stability in the shoulders and back.
